16/3/2020 0 Comments Weekly Update - 16/03/20Tad Bit of a Hiatus....Tad Bit to Make Up for ItGreetings Scholars!
If you haven't been on here in a while, we don't blame you. What with all the havoc being caused by Covid-19 and whatnot (hope you all are staying safe and aren't having your lives too heavily disrupted!); the WSC team has postponed several rounds in several cities (hopefully for the first, last and only year in the entire program). As a result, the Commune hasn't been particularly active in the past two weeks because, coincidentally, many of our members had exams and thus crammed entire nights to get their studying in (what? school taking precedence over WSC? Outrageous!). Luckily the past week we've been able to cobble together (love that phrase incase it isn't obvious already!) some new studying materials for you (and your team!) to benefit from. Other than two new practice challenges from the Research and Resources Department, we've also got those long awaited Kahoots for you and your school delegation to practice with! Of course the list of Kahoots will be expanded and added to in the coming week(s) so by the end of the month you'll have the entire curriculum (fingers crossed!) ready to learn at a moment's notice. So that's it for this week, but as always make sure you're following our Instagram account for daily updates and potential sneak peeks at what's in store for the next update (hint hint wink wink). We will also be cataloging future debate and writing motions so for this week those are on hold. 24/2/2020 7 Comments Weekly Update - 24/02/20Greetings Scholars! This week's dispatch (I quite like that name!) is actually written by Avan (sorry for my absence last week, had quite a fair bit of schoolwork to manage). Unfortunately this week isn't too exciting as far as we at the commune are concerned. But rest assured we're working on things that'll be updated for next week's update that'll make it a lot more enjoyable for you lot! As of now, I've had the pleasure of teaching more than 30 scholars over the past couple of weeks thanks to our tutoring service that we provide (free of charge!) to any willing WSC coach in the world. If you're interested, fill out the survey below or have one of your students direct message us at the official AAR instagram (@avansalpacaofficial). In the meantime, scholars here is your usual weekly practice challenge and links to even more quizlets (Kahoots will be posted on Friday once I'm done formatting them, apologies for the delay!). Now in regards to some observant scholars comments, we're also bringing back weekly writing and debate motions for each subject area (only one though in the case of debate). Lovely stuff indeed. See you all next week scholars! When hopefully the commune has a lot more in store. Debate Motion: Resolved: That society would suffer if planned obsolescence was outlawed Writing Motions:
Art and Music: Your artpiece has just won the "commemoration award", why did it win it? Literature and Media: If you were going to teach someone how to be a critic of literature, what would you tell them? Science and Technology: Which geoengineering technique would you recommend to the European Union? Special Area: Which historical mistake would you be able to forgive the most? History: Write a piece for the British monarch about why a regent is preferable to a child king/queen Social Studies: Convince your school that it should create its own trends for students to follow 17/2/2020 1 Comment Weekly Update - 17/02/20Settling In
Thank you to the entire team for helping develop and keep AAR alive and well. Other than those updates, we also have a new addition to the Commune <3
10/2/2020 1 Comment Weekly Update - 10/02/20A New Look... A New Section.... A New Plan!Greetings Scholars! Incase it wasn't extremely obvious already (seriously how have you not noticed?), the website has undergone a MAJOR redesign (and I wholeheartedly love the way it looks now, much better than the previous design I cobbled together poorly). You can thank Jutin, Filan and Eli from the Commune for this wonderful redesign of theirs (good thing I recruited people who are actually good at visual design!). Hopefully this'll make it much easier and appealing for you to navigate around the website and find what you need. Now then, onto what's actually been added other than a fresh new look (though I'll be honest that would've sufficed for a weekly update!). Thanks to the efforts of the Commissariat of Research and Resources, the notes have been updated where the WSC staff released some add-ons recently (cheeky move by them). Furthermore, and perhaps much to the relief of many of you, we've now got quizlets and practice challenges for you to start reviewing either individually or together with your team (the practice kahoots will come next week, incase any of you panic comment). Go ahead and test your knowledge on each subject thus far down below (obviously just like previous years we'll be updating the quiz master-page with new weekly links): And for something slightly out of the ordinary (I know right? We're just full of surprises this week!). The commissariat of Social Affairs and Public Relations have been working tirelessly to ensure that you can connect with us beyond this website itself. Keep a lookout for the new teaser and REDACTED from the official AAR instagram page! Follow us for updates and *exclusive* content each week (insert cringey Youtube exit music here): @avansalpacaofficial.
Stay tuned for next week's update then scholars! The commune welcomes you to a new phase in avansalpacaresources! 3/2/2020 4 Comments Weekly update - 03/02/20A work in progress.... againGreetings Scholars!
The title of this weekly update alone should probably say enough about the current state of Commune operations. We're currently firing on all cylinders (or gears, whichever analogy takes your fancy) to make sure that next week will herald (gee what an old word, guess that's something that predates even "boomer" times) one of the largest drops of scholar-related study material this website has ever seen. Until then, make sure you avail yourself (yes I'm a walking encyclopedia of outdated 1800s phrases and words, if that wasn't obvious already) of the recently-released fully-complete (hyphen manias beware) resource curriculum for 2020 on the site! I've practically been hinting at all the Social Studies "Dictionary Renewal" terms with my quips throughout this entire post (didn't catch them? Then time to start studying!) Have fun studying (cramming I suppose would be more fitting by ah well) for your regional rounds, whenever they be! I'll be back next week with all the new material the commune's working on right now. See you then scholars! 27/1/2020 3 Comments Weekly update - 27/01/20WEEKLY UPdATE IN pROGRESS...Update #3: Yes it's taken us a whole 5 days to finish this update! (still better than the time it took the WSC website to update). We round out this week with the release of Literature. Which means nothing less than the ability for you lot to study all 6 subject areas well before your regionals (unless they're happening next week or have already happened, in which case you can use them to study for globals!). We'll be back next Monday (with a proper weekly update) with some more for you scholars to benefit from! That's the commune signing out for now! Update #2: Greetings Scholars! History is now out! Have fun studying the History of Succession (I'll be sure to do some videos on this on the Youtube Channel soon). Next up: Literature! Stay tuned for more updates! Update Scholars!
Please check back here later this week for the actual announcements we've got to make. Rest assured the Commune hasn't forgotten to update you that they're still updating the website. Gee this sounds an awful lot (and almost looks a lot) like the WSC Website before they released all the names of the subject areas. Oh and by the way Social Studies is now fully complete. Just an update. 20/1/2020 3 Comments Weekly update - 20/01/20A small hiatus for scholars - something for the coaches!Greetings Coaches! That's right, this week's weekly update is dedicated to you all as amazing contributors to the WSC community whom thousands of scholars should thank (arguably instead of their chairs!) for helping them take part in the World Scholar's Cup experience. Because our Research and Resources team is hard at work delivering the final 3 subject areas (myself along with them - though mostly just History for me!), this week will be rather light on content in terms of new additions for the scholars, but it does give me some time to make a few quick announcements regarding what the Commune can do to serve you as delegation leaders (whether you be teachers or former scholars yourselves!). Firstly (and probably the most ignored) thing we have are tutor session with the Commune. These are basically Skype, Discord, Messenger, Viber (whatever media you possess or prefer) calls whereby you and your delegation can schedule some time to talk with the General Secretary (Avan) himself about anything and everything to do with World Scholar's Cup! Got a few questions about the event? Need a few tips for debating? Or would you really like some help getting new teams started on this great journey? All of those and many more can be requested during these sessions. How do you schedule them I hear you ask? (either that or my hearing's really off) Rather simple really, simply press the button below to send an email to Avan with the following information:
Scholars! If you see this post and think your fellow schoolmates would benefit from such a session, feel free to email me as well (so long as your coach agrees!). The more scholars we teach the merrier! Secondly, one of our Commissars of Research and Resources also runs their own discord (which I might add, is a rather amazing place for all scholars, returning or new!). It hosts weekly debates and general conversations regarding the resources. Go and check it out at the link below! (Oh I should probably mentioned it required discord, but that was pretty obvious I hope)
13/1/2020 0 Comments Welcome to the 2020 Season!First Of the season Scholars!!!Greetings Scholars! General Secretary Avan here and it is my absolute joy and honour to welcome you all, new or returning; Senior or Junior; awkward or not (probably are!) to avansalpacaresources! This 2020 season marks the third year of operations for the website and this time it also marks the first year of operations for the Commune of Passionate Scholars United! This amazing group of scholars, retired or current, will be helping me handle the resources; guides; social stuff and more on the website as we continue to grow this season! In keeping with the WSC theme for this year, this website is also being renewed (yes my communist rants, resource quirks and WSC puns will still be here; whether you prefer it to be or not!). But for the time being: I'll let a member of our Commissariat of Social Affairs - Archi Tulsian, give the Commune's greetings for you: Hello scholars and alpaca-lovers of the world, old and new, and welcome to new season of WSC! We here at Avan's Alpaca Resources are super excited to see what the 2020 season has in store - with the theme of this year being 'A World Renewed', we expect to see some, well.... interesting changes within the staff members too. Will Dylan stop abusing and decapitating alpacas? Will Daniel find a new household item to obsess over? And what song will they play on repeat this year? So many questions, and we look forward to getting the answers to these, and more, together with all of you! 2020 is also a very special year for us as well, for it is the first time we are operating as a commune! For new scholars to the program (welcome by the way!), Avan's Alpaca Resources started out in 2018, when our General Secretary (yes very Communist you can tell) Avan decided to make a handy website to save the lives of desperate scholars who procrastinated way too much (such as yours truly! As the WSC community grew, so did Avan's workload, and as a result, our Commune of Passionate Scholars was formed. To learn more about our 17 members, click on the link below! At Avan's Alpaca Resources, we have pretty much anything and everything you need to help with your WSC study! We don't sell alpacas though, that'd be a bit hard to organise. Along with the content for this season, which is being meticulously researched and written up as we speak by the great note-takers (and some legends!) among the Commissariat of Research and Resources, we have weekly updates with debating and writing motions for you to practice, as well as guides from the Commissariat of Guidance and Assistance to help improve your performance in events such as those! Furthermore, if you have any questions, or need any help at all, you can contact us directly at [email protected] (for now, that'll lead you straight to the attention of our General Secretary and founder himself!).
We look forward to seeing the 2020 season unveiled, and spending it with scholars from all over the world, and all of us here at Avan's Alpaca Resources wish you a successful and joyful season! Hopefully we'll be a greater part of your WSC experience in the weeks to come! 13/1/2020 2 Comments Weekly update - 13/1/20The Commune is in full swing scholars!Greetings Scholars! Did you miss us? Hopefully we weren't gone too long (though we hope Sample of Your Pasta will be) for the WSC to become a nonexistent part of your life (the audacity!). This week marks the first every weekly update from the newly formed Commune of Passionate Scholars United! Our very communist and collective sounding Commissariats have been hard at work behind the scenes (and on several Messenger chats!) to bring you quite a fair bit of content this Monday. So let's get started with what's in store then shall we? First up (I'm not even going to try and delay it), the FULL resource notes by the Commissariat of Research and Resources (formed by many legendary scholars and yours truly!) for Special Area, Art and Music and Science are now out for your note-taking/studying joy! It goes without saying that we'll be completing out the curriculum in the week(s) to come so look out for those new arrivals too. Please keep reading this weekly update though don't dash straight there please. Next up we've got a whole new slew of guides from Jutin (yes that 2nd place ToC scholar Jutin!) about the Challenge and getting started on this amazing program for those of you who are scratching your heads and probably went here because your friends or coach told you too (you'll thank them for it later fingers crossed). Go check them out at the buttons below: Of course in the coming weeks and days even we'll be announcing a whole new slew of content from the other Commissariats, so stay tuned both here and on Facebook for those! God I sound like a Youtuber already (don't forget to like and subscribe cringe level stuff).
Welcome to the 2020 season scholars, the Commune's glad to have you here! |
