Honestly comrades, the World Scholar's Cup has made me a lot more confident in the sense that I have managed to convince myself that it is actually a good thing to engage with people. Because the people at WSC are such fascinating individuals. Being able to also waste everyone's time by forcing them into sitting through a gruelling 5 minute performance of my poorly improvised jokes is also great in terms of me doing what I love doing, which is making people laugh (for the most part rip). I swear man, the only reason I started WSC in 2017 was because someone said there would be conspiracy theories, and by golly gosh, I love me a good conspiracy, and so I chomped at the bit.
I am so fortunate to have had 3 great teams, the original two that showed me the ropes (I love you Kate and Thalia <3), the lads that took me to TOC (Bill and Fred, thanks lads, it was truly an excellent experience to hangout in front of Trump Tower whilst a protest occurred), and finally my homebois, Jedi and Ankit. Together we were The Dude (me), The Goose (Jedi), and Gel Douche (Ankit), and those nights in KL transformed us as we all shared and read out our depressing poetry. All this amalgamated into my love of the program which is perhaps comparable to my appreciation of Marx. On that note, I find the WSC and what it stands for to be quite Communistic, and so if anyone reads this and wants to start up a Communist thingy at TOC this year, let me know comrades.
Overall, the draw of history has always compelled me to do things, and in this case it was the reason I stuck with WSC, being able to learn about my favorite topic (outside of Historical Materialism and Marxism) was truly an experience that I will forever treasure (considering how my school won't ever get IB History at DP level, grrrr). But yes, the comradely attitude at the scholar's balls always make me feel accepted (especially now with my red costume), and the people are always so accepting.
Comrades, hearken to my words, SCHOLARS OF THE WORLD UNITE.
